In the postmortem on the California initiative to ban gays from marrying it turns out that the mormon church had more than just a subtle part. They invested people and money to ensure that their view (not necessarily those of the state) held sway.
the church volunteers were instructed to emphasize that Proposition 8 would restore the definition of marriage God intended.
God intended that the definition of marriage excluded the union of two loving people based on their gender? Now really. Where does it say that exactly. Oh wait it doesn't does it. It's just an interpretation. Doesn't matter really, if the mormons turned out in force to yank the right to marry from a minority then they should be happy with the aftermath right? No, think again...
That said, the extent of the protests has taken many Mormons by surprise. On Friday, the church’s leadership took the unusual step of issuing a statement calling for “respect” and “civility” in the aftermath of the vote.
“Attacks on churches and intimidation of people of faith have no place in civil discourse over controversial issues,” the statement said. “People of faith have a democratic right to express their views in the public square without fear of reprisal.”
Hey if you are willing to go out and put your ass on the line for what you believe in, then you should be willing to do so even after the vote right? It's a bad time to ask the people you hurt to "turn the other cheek" isn't it?
You want descriptions? Get a dictionary. Better go waste time reading the news or play some games on Yahoo or MSN or some shit like that.
