Mormons hate gays

In the postmortem on the California initiative to ban gays from marrying it turns out that the mormon church had more than just a subtle part. They invested people and money to ensure that their view (not necessarily those of the state) held sway.

the church volunteers were instructed to emphasize that Proposition 8 would restore the definition of marriage God intended.

God intended that the definition of marriage excluded the union of two loving people based on their gender? Now really. Where does it say that exactly. Oh wait it doesn't does it. It's just an interpretation. Doesn't matter really, if the mormons turned out in force to yank the right to marry from a minority then they should be happy with the aftermath right? No, think again...

That said, the extent of the protests has taken many Mormons by surprise. On Friday, the church’s leadership took the unusual step of issuing a statement calling for “respect” and “civility” in the aftermath of the vote.

“Attacks on churches and intimidation of people of faith have no place in civil discourse over controversial issues,” the statement said. “People of faith have a democratic right to express their views in the public square without fear of reprisal.”

Hey if you are willing to go out and put your ass on the line for what you believe in, then you should be willing to do so even after the vote right? It's a bad time to ask the people you hurt to "turn the other cheek" isn't it?

I love god's definition. It amuses me. Did you know that 150 years ago, it was more common for a marriage to be arranged by parents than for love? Or that 1000 years ago, gay marriages were done in the Catholic Church? Further back than that, multiple wives were common. And in the time of Jesus, marriages were used as a legal contract, and were dissolved through divorce whenever the underlying buisness arrangement was concluded?

Yeah, I'm glad we're sticking with the sacred 'tradition' of marriage that has remained constant and unchanging throughout time.

Oh, and on another topic, a quick lecture about the first amendment. It give you the right to express yourself. I don't argue that the Mormon Church is right to express it's point of view and try to push people to vote it's way.

However, in no way does the first amendment protect you from reprisals for your speech. When you say something that is hillbilly ass backwards... people can stand outside and protest your ignorant bigoted bullshit all day long.

The Church lost it's right to complain when it started a campaign of hate against a group of people. There is no civility to be had. The homosexuals tried to be civil. The Church shit on their families and their wedding vows. The Mormons can drop to their knees and suck it. And when they're done, they can go die in a fire. Slowly.

Religion and politics don't belong together. I hate when church leaders get involved with politics and government has no business getting involved in religious matters. The Catholic church has has been sticking their fingers in our business for years and that pissed me off. I am gravely disappointed in the Mormon church for getting into politics after they have refrained for 30 yrs.

I was going to post on Proposition 8. I've been searching for the exact wording of the bill. In the absence of finding the wording, it was my understanding that part of the problem with the bill was how it was worded and the decision from the court case that prompted the bill left churches that refused to marry same sex couples open to lawsuits and loss of their tax-free status.

Trying to tell a church what kind of services/ordinances they can perform is wrong. Government needs to get out of marriage and leave it to churches, where is started. And there are churches that would marry same-sex couples.

Government should, however, grant civil unions. People who love each other should be able to be joined to each other.

Now all we can hope for is a Unitarian church to sue every governmental entity that denies them the right to perform marriages for same sex couples.

You want descriptions? Get a dictionary. Better go waste time reading the news or play some games on Yahoo or MSN or some shit like that.
