Dicks in Demand

Gods but it's good to have a blog when you get fed stories like these...

LONDON (AP) -- Britain is facing a sperm donor shortage after reversing confidentiality laws and limiting the number of women who can use sperm from one donor, fertility experts warned Wednesday.

Why the shortage? Well two reasons: first because you can no longer contribute anonymously and second because one guy can only supply 10 women. The Dutch let one guy service up to 25. Why 10? Who knows, maybe it's a nice round number?

Ok I can totally dig the idea that maybe the offspring should know who their genetic parent is, so perhaps its good to let them find out. But really I don't think it should matter much - other than for medical reasons. I mean if Dad donated at 20 but then died at 40 of prostrate cancer, it's good to know right?

The other limit, ten babies per guy - well what's really the sense in that? I mean think of it in a Darwinian sense. The Alpha guy might have actually managed a lot more than that. You know Alpha mormons do. If the dude has the right genes then why limit him eh?

Still I have a better idea that might increase the number of donors in the UK. Instead of identifying the father - let them remain anonymous and instead identify the siblings. You get more friends, and less stress and some genetic bonding that's far more useful.

If I didn't read that wrong - its 10 women not 10 children. Women can have multiple children. And even when Mormons did have polygamy (we won't talk about the warped renegades of these days), damn few men had more than 10 wives.

I personally think the limit is a good idea. If I were to go to a sperm bank, I would feel better knowing that there were a limited number of half siblings to my children.

You want descriptions? Get a dictionary. Better go waste time reading the news or play some games on Yahoo or MSN or some shit like that.
