I'm pretty even handed about letting people get in front of me. I won't let in a million, but I try and let one person in so it's an interleaving process during a merge.

If you signal I'm more likely to let you in.

If you're polite and don't try and cram your car into the space I'm occupying I'm more likely to let you in.

If you don't drive some stupid-ass, gas-guzzling, monster, jacked pickup truck complete with chromed trans-axle I'm more likely to let you in.

If you have to drive for a living (taxi, tractor trailer, FedEx, etc.) I'm more likely to let you in.

If you're not on a cell phone I'm more likely to let you in.

But...

Once I give you the space, then fucking go. Don't sit there and gawk at me, don't pick your nose, don't stare stupidly into space just go, go, GO because I won't wait forever.

There's nothing I hate more then slowing down to give someone the opportunity to merge and then having to wait while they decide to take the space. You have about 5 to 6 seconds after I pause... because after that tough luck, I'm not going to hold everyone else up because you can't react.
