Faith, Science, Faith

There seems to be a common theme in the religious right these days: science where it suits them, but only to the degree that it meets their needs.

Recently a couple had been trying to have kids, and when they couldn't they turned to science to help them. As a side effect of the medical (not holy) intervention they conceived six. The doctors told them that trying to have six wasn't a good idea, that there would be problems, and that they should reduce the number to increase their chances of survival. This is the same science that they turned to in the first place to conceive right? You'd think that they'd say "Yes, we want a child and a healthy one so we'll do what we have to as insurance."

But no. Now it was back to "faith". Science got you pregnant, but faith will ensure that the doctors will be wrong? Uh no. Four of the six are dead, and the remaining two are in intensive care, but they still have "faith".

If all the babies die then they'll be back to "science" again trying to conceive. Given the time and money wasted on them in the first place I hope they get a back seat to newer couples who are more willing to listen to the doctors.

You were told of the consequences thus it's no surprise that it happened. It wasn't science that let you down, it was either your "faith" or your own lack of intelligence.

Once again, Darwin proves his mettle.

I'm reminded of a phrase, "Laws sometimes sleep, but never die." The laws of physics, economics and nature, sometimes skirted by humanity, like Wile E. Coyote in a Road Runner cartoon as he runs off a cliff, eventually win out. The bill will be paid [Hi, I'm Darwin, and I'll be your waiter today.]

Perhaps God's answer to them in the first place was: "No, I don't want you to have kids." So they turned to Satan, better know as "science". Just a thought.

Seriously, Nietzsche never knew how right he would be. We are becoming gods in our own right by having the ability to guide our own destiny and create life where life could not be created. It is hard to believe, but Nietzsche was also a man of faith. Whether you believe in a god or not, we have been entrusted with God-like powers - now we just need the wisdom, and the courage, to wield them wisely.

Surrendering a decision like this to "faith" is mere cowardice. To me, they have failed God's test of their worthiness

I'm not sure its quite fair to just off handedly accuse them of being idiots. Yes, they turned to science to help them have kids. Since that particular form of science isn't all that perfect yet, they got 6 kids. Now, being people of faith, odds are they think life begins in the womb and thus picking and choosing which of the 6 live and die is a pretty daunting task. Maybe they are cowards for not doing that, but I know I can't really judge them since I've been fortunate enough not to be put in such a horrible situation.

{quote}The parents of the Minnesota sextuplets, Ryan and Brianna Morrison, used fertility drugs. Doctors encouraged them to consider removing some of the fetuses, but it was ''not an option for us,'' the couple wrote on their Web site.

''We understand that the risk is high, but we also understand that these little ones are much more than six fetuses. Each one of them is a miracle given to us by God,'' they wrote before the births.{/quote}

Those fetuses are not granted by the will of god, but rather by the doctors that managed this "miracle".

The point is that there is an underlying cost - in time, emotion, money - to enable these freaks to get pregnant. Yes, there's the possibility of multiple fetuses, but if they want babies so badly in the first place they should follow the recommendation of the specialists who are trying to help them. It's greedy, selfish and arrogant to expect science to help you get what you want, and then complain that science didn't do enough when you choose to ignore their advice.

Idiots? Maybe not. Greedy, self-absorbed retards that want "god" to solve their problems because they want to live in denial? Most likely.

Dunno if you'll read back and catch this comment or not, but here it is:

And then there was one.

The other five kids are dead. Three of the boys died within a week of their birth, One girl died on June 22 and the fifth, a girl, died June 23.

The remaining child is in critical condition.

Good job asshats!

I did read back, and I have to say I agree with Odessa's comment:

"To me, they have failed God's test of their worthiness."

You want descriptions? Get a dictionary. Better go waste time reading the news or play some games on Yahoo or MSN or some shit like that.
