Government for the Rich by the Rich (aka "the war on the rest of us")

From the NY Times: Income Gap Is Widening, Data Shows

"Income inequality grew significantly in 2005, with the top 1 percent of Americans - those with incomes that year of more than $348,000 - receiving their largest share of national income since 1928, analysis of newly released tax data shows.

The top 10 percent, roughly those earning more than $100,000, also reached a level of income share not seen since before the Depression.

[...]

The gains went largely to the top 1 percent, whose incomes rose to an average of more than $1.1 million each, an increase of more than $139,000, or about 14 percent.

The new data also shows that the top 300,000 Americans collectively enjoyed almost as much income as the bottom 150 million Americans. Per person, the top group received 440 times as much as the average person in the bottom half earned, nearly doubling the gap from 1980."

I'm sure that for those who knew all along that a government run by some of the richest, fat cats in America weren't at all interested in seeing anyone below them catch up... the numbers support you.

For those delusional bastards who felt that electing an "average joe like me" or "a family values representative", well I'm sure there are lots of excuses you can make to rationalize the fact that our President and his government never really had your interests in the first place. Enjoy.

I do have a problem with some of these "statistical" gems. $100,000 in NYC isn't the same as $100,000 in Topeka. People in big cities earn more than people in little hick towns. I think they need to put the cut off a bit higher, like $500 K and see what that gives us with CEO's and their golden parachutes. Floors me that a person can run a company into the ground, get fired for it and walk away with multi-mil settlements.

That's not all - they can totally fuck everyone over and somehow STILL get hired someplace else! For more money! Damn, they never taught us that in college...

We can only blame ourselves as a society. Very little effort is put on teaching our kids financial and political/governmental wisdom. Too much effort is placed on historical and social bullshit. If we spent as much time teaching our kids financial and political 'smarts' in school as we do worthless history, phys ed, arts and sports our future leaders and citizens would be much more informed and better able to function in this capitalistic society and avoid things like Enron, junk bonds etc etc etc. Our kids could spot a good fucking coming up.. our kids could spot a piece of shit politician in the dark.. our kids would be wiser to the snake oil salesmen that are today's politicians.

Yeah, no need to teach history. It's not like 50 years from now people might not be able to learn anything from what's happening today after all. I mean, humans live for 1000s of years after all so it's not like people are likely to forget mistakes of the past every 70 years or so...

Well, to be frank the bullshit that passes for "history" in most education up to and through high school does nothing to prepare kids for the future. It is mainly memorizing dates and making sure the little darlings can regurgitate on demand. History is so much more. I have learn more watching a single show on the history channel than I ever did in all the history classes I attended combined. What is more important to preventing the repeat of bad stuff in history - a date or why something happened?

You want descriptions? Get a dictionary. Better go waste time reading the news or play some games on Yahoo or MSN or some shit like that.
