Too Old to Die?

I swear to gob, the real news becomes more and more like satire the longer we crawl this earth. A seventy five year old inmate on death row is now saying that he's "too old to die". The lawyers say that to take a man who is bound to a wheel-chair, nearly deaf and blind, and strap him down for some lethal injection, amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.

How obvious does this need to be? I guess we'll have to spell it out for the nth time.

1) He wasn't in this state of health when he committed his crimes.
2) His victims really didn't have an option when it came to his decision to take their lives.
3) If he's on his way out, let's just give him a hand.

One of the many things I lack compassion for are the dregs who play the part of the victim even though they themselves couldn't empathize with anyone but their own asses.

Ok lets get something clear - this guy committed his crimes when he was 50. Yes 50. He's had 23 years of appeals. Granting this guy clemency would only have meant that convicted criminals could stall the system until they were "too old" to pay for their actions. Boo fucking hoo, this guy at least GOT to live to an old age - unlike the people he had murdered.

I've been told by many people that I have no sense of compassion. That I just don't sympathize well with the suffering of others.

Or more particularly... I tend to laugh my ass of at them.

This guy... is why I'm like that.

Too old to die? HA! Cruel and unusual? HA!

Lemme try to impart some understanding to this goat felcher. A punishment isn't worse or more unusual just because you're old. It's just punishment. One you deserve. In fact, after 25 years in the system, I think it's about damn time we got around to serving it up.

Beyond that, I think perhaps we've lost sight of what the constitution is really talking about with that phrase.

Cruel: Slowly pulling the accused into quarters using four horses attached to each limb.

Unusual: Placing the accused in the world's largest skillet and frying him up like bacon.

Cruel and Unusual: Putting the accused into a large burlap sack with a few starving wolverines.

Now, putting a needle in the old fucker doesn’t seem so bad now, doesn’t it? Hell, if I were him, I’d look forward to the end of staring at the same cell for the rest of my life. At least this way is relatively painless. Unlike cancer or Alzheimer’s or any number of other things that kill people.

Justice delayed is Justice denied.

Why could someone possibly be allowed to tie up the system for 23 years? The should upthe dosage from Draino to Profession Strength Draino when they inject someone who has further denied Justice (and footed tax-payers with court costs and free room and board) for 23 years.

Now if the REAL victims survivors ask for clemency and are willing to pay the cost of his upkeep then let him bunk with them. Otherwise, sentences should be carried out in a timely manner for lots of reasons...
