Komen-nomics: Where Your Breast Cancer Dollars Are Really Going

Basically all the money and hype behind "pink month" is just that, money and hype for the point of making more money and hype. Research has fuck-little to do with it at all.
According to data obtained from the NFL by Darren Rovell of ESPN, the NFL "takes a 25 percent royalty from the wholesale price (1/2 retail), donates 90 percent of royalty to American Cancer Society." The remainder of the profit is then divided between the company that makes the merchandise -- which gets to keep 37. 5 percent -- and the companies that sell it, often the NFL individual teams, which get the other 50 percent. In the end, only 8.01 percent of money fans spend on NFL pink merchandise goes toward cancer research. (UPI)
Susan Komen proved years ago that profiteering off a humanitarian cause was good biz. The lady made herself muy wealthy, and shared that wealth, not with those scientists in the lab, but with her business partners. So when you see pink, don't think breast cancer, think profit - because that's mainly what it's all about. 92% of it at any rate.
