Because you're not born knowing how to massacre an entire school.

The troubled teen authorities say killed 17 people at a Florida high school excelled in an air-rifle marksmanship program supported by a grant from the National Rifle Association Foundation, part of a multimillion-dollar effort by the gun group to support youth shooting clubs and other programs. (AP)

Just like the tobacco industry the NRA tries to insinuate gun culture into American youth. And it works. I hear all the time "guns aren't dangerous, I grew up with them." But at the same time we don't grow up with checks and balances on our mental health. We don't have training on meditation or relaxation, if anything it's the opposite: "play hard, party hard." That is the midset. And when the desire to hurt as many people as possible overlaps with the ability to acquire guns and the knowledge to use them then we raise generations of killers.

Of course politicians are "so surprised" which is fascinating because they know how quickly they can fill their coffers with NRA bucks to support a gun-friendly environment. No, there's no chance that pussy politicos will do anything to cross the powerful gun lobby, they're scared spitless of losing that precious money, and the flare of waving guns at their next pre-election campaign.

Of course the biggest irony is that Dickhead himself enabled the types of people he says we should all be on the alert for: people with certified mental illness. Of course by the same token the after dickhead made it easier for people with mental illness to GET guns. Not that they want to admit it. Nope, in fact it never even happened because there's no picture that it happened. Well even if there are pictures they're not going to release them, so no. It never happened.

The White House has refused to release a photo of President Donald Trump signing a law making it easier for some people with mental illness to buy guns.

Despite repeated requests from CBS News, the White House press office has issued only a one-line response.

Mr Trump last year repealed an Obama-era rule allowing the names of certain people on mental health benefits to be entered into a criminal database. (BBC)

Just hoping this will all go away so he can pocket more dough and talk about himself some more. That's the current president. Out fucking standing asshole.

The sad fact is that when children die more guns are sold. Because that's the NRA's America.

At least 17 people have been killed in a shooting at a local high school in Parkland, Florida, police say.

The suspect has been named as Nikolas Cruz, 19, and is a former student at the school who had been expelled.

He reportedly pulled the fire alarm and caused chaos in the school before he started shooting, law enforcement officials told CBS News. (BBC)

The cycle keeps repeating itself with increasing intensity. Why? Because of continued accessibility to guns and because our culture has made it a quick and easy way to fame. As we know people will do ANYTHING to go from nobody to somebody everyone is talking about. From reject to infamous in the pull of a trigger. All it takes is a gun and a lot of bullets.

The NRA wants everyone to believe that more guns equals less massacres, but if you take that to it's logical conclusion which is the actual scenario where there are no more gun massacres? The one where EVERYONE has a gun? Or the one where NO ONE has a gun?

That's when it becomes obvious. But it's hard to get rich by NOT selling something. So here we go again.

This massacre brought to you by the NRA: Buy more, kill more, just make sure you're the last man standing.

Called It

Remember back two posts when I said Kentucky values guns over kids? Well here's the proof.

In Kentucky, West's bill is one of at least two that would allow more guns into Kentucky's public schools and on college campuses. They reflect sentiments that have found bipartisan support in a conservative state whose politicians routinely pose in ads with guns, and where the National Rifle Association held its 2016 national convention. The NRA has an outsized influence in many state elections and the resulting gun policy debates in those legislatures.

"You know, we're in Kentucky," said Ralph Alvarado, a Republican state senator and medical doctor who co-sponsored West's legislation. "This debate always comes up, restricting gun use in the state. I'm just adamantly opposed to it. It's a constitutional right that we have. It's one of those things that it's going to be tough to ever get that kind of a concept through. (AP)

So it's not about putting KIDS in school, it's about putting GUNS in school. Like that? A "doctor" who believes that the "constitutional right" to kill is more valuable than the right to learn.

You'd think even a doctor would understand that less bullets = less death. But no. It's about being all "Kentucky", which I suppose means fucking stupid.

Because guaranteed, this won't even make them blink when it comes to considering gun limits.

BENTON, Ky. (AP) -- A tight-knit rural community reflected Wednesday on the hometown horror of a school shooting that killed two teenagers, injured 18 and sent hundreds of others fleeing for their lives from a place many considered immune from violence. [..] Throughout a community where practically everyone knows each other -- Benton, the nearest town, has about 4,300 people -- people were initially shocked, saying "We can't believe this is happening to us," Patrick Adamson, a church youth director, said Wednesday.

The only "backlash" expected is increased gun sales. As far as the NRA is concerned every gun-related tragedy is free PR. They LOVE massacres because they get new opportunities to explain that MORE BULLETS equals MORE SAFETY. Of course if you replace the word "bullets" with "bombs" it's pretty easy to see that line of reasoning is just fucking retarded, but hey, gun owners WANT to believe that by having the ability to "kill back" they're safer.

It has yet to be proven.

But you know, this is Kentucky, where they'll justify lack of intelligent action as piety. Whatever.

I mean his sons survived right? So everything's ok, right?

HOBART, Ind. (AP) -- Prosecutors have filed neglect and reckless homicide charges against the father of a 9-year-old northwestern Indiana girl shot to death when his firearm accidentally discharged [..]

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports family members told police the father was showing a firearm to Olivia and her brothers Saturday afternoon when it discharged, striking the girl in the head.

I've got nothing. You know where I stand. And you know I'm not ignoring yet another, stupid, avoidable gun-related death.

Those two things don't go well together but hey, let's face facts, Americans love their guns far more than they love their kids. In fact if they had to do without one of the two the population would drop like a rock.

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. (AP) -- Police say a 4-year-old boy fatally shot his mother's boyfriend in eastern Arkansas.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Tennessee say a toddler apparently shot a 7-year-old cousin to death at an apartment.

No one expects a seven or a four year old to have a fucking clue about how to properly handle a gun, but in both cases loaded weapons were left within their reach. It's no surprise that with all the NRA-fed gun frenzy that's been going on since Obama was elected that kids are getting their hands on weapons, nor the results.

But the NRA and the GOP would have you believe that its your RIGHT to have so many guns and keep them so insecurely that shit like this becomes so common that no one even cares any more. It's just a kids game now. For great big kids who never, ever want to grow up. And for some who never will.

Ok, Stupid Slut DeVos needs to go.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Education Secretary Betsy DeVos reiterated her push for school choice during an annual education technology conference in Utah Tuesday, comparing the issue to being able to switch between phone service providers.

She said there are many great cell phone companies, but people have the option to pick which one they want to use.

Because your kid's future is EXACTLY the same thing as your cell phone bill. Gods what a stupid twat. There's really no explaining to a billionaire bitch why we need public education. So why bother? It's going to be more asinine drivel for another 3+ years. Next!

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas lawmakers are advancing a proposal to license family immigrant detention centers as child care providers.

The state Senate voted 20-11 Tuesday to give preliminary approval to a bill that would allow Texas to license two family lockdowns, despite a past state court ruling that such facilities do not meet minimum requirements to care for kids. The measure would enable detention facilities to hold families for prolonged stays, which advocates say could physically and psychologically harm children.

Yes, Texas found another way to help their prisons earn money! By incarcerating whole families and then claiming credits as child care. Imagine, what a great way for kids to learn and grow, behind bars in a cement box.

America the loathesome. It's not a great time or place to be a kid.

Because EVERY toddler should have a gun.

DELTONA, Fla. (AP) -- A woman who left her child unattended in a vehicle in the parking lot of a Florida church's school has been charged with felony child neglect after the 3-year-old boy found her loaded handgun and pulled the trigger, sheriff's deputies said.

PHOENIX (AP) -- The parents of a 9-year-old boy who was shot in the head in their Phoenix home put off calling 911 as they cleaned up evidence in multiple rooms of the house, police said Wednesday, calling it a case that "shocks your conscience."

It's tRump-merica! Everyone should have a gun! Every single person, including babies and fetuses. Because GUNS MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER.

Except for dead people. But they don't count.

You know it took me decades to figure out the GOP strategy on guns: abortion is bad BECAUSE we need extra babies to make up for the ones that die due to poor gun handling.
The findings: During the first six months of this year, minors died from accidental shootings - at their own hands, or at the hands of other children or adults - at a pace of one every other day, far more than limited federal statistics indicate. (AP)
So let's figure, 365 divided by two, so roughly 180+ kids dying a year. If we relax gun laws, make ownership easier and remove regulations on storing and locking totally maybe we can bump that up to one dying every day. Hmmm, given that there's roughly 700k abortions per year we're going to have to work a LOT harder than that. Maybe once Trump is in office and we legalize rape and repeal the 19th AND ban abortion we can start making a real dent in that number. Vote Trump! Guns and pregnancy for all!
And yet, it has to be documented as data supporting the reality of what we live with.
A two-year-old boy has accidentally shot and killed his mother in the US city of Milwaukee after finding a gun in the back of their car. The woman, Patrice Price, had been driving a car owned by her security guard boyfriend who had left his gun in the car, her father Andre said. Milwaukee police said she was shot once in the back while driving on a local highway on Tuesday morning(BBC)
Did you hear the one about the security guard not securing his weapon? It's so funny, it'll kill ya.
Even statistically this was going to happen. Thing is, we could reduce these statistics but hell no, that's just not fucking cool.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indianapolis police say a 2-year-old boy shot and killed himself after taking a gun from his mother's purse on the kitchen counter when she wasn't watching.
Because everyone has to have one. Because it's cool. Because we're all afraid. Because *I* won't make a mistake. Because it's my right. Because I may need to overthrow the government someday. Because it makes me feel like a badass. Because only the bad guys have them. Because money. Because power. Because fear. Because when it really comes down to it, I want what I want and fuck everyone else. Even my kids.
Of course she's now paying the price for her own mistakes.
A four-year old boy accidentally shot and injured his mother in their car in northern Florida, US media report. The woman told police the incident happened while the boy was sitting in the back seat.[..] The boy was unharmed and his mother - named as Jamie Gilt, 31 - is said to be in a stable condition after being taken to hospital. Police said a .45 calibre handgun was on the floor of the truck, the Florida Times-Union reported. (BBC)
So I get the sense here that storing a handgun on the floor of your vehicle, just in front of Junior, ain't such a great idea now is it? Course it was to Jamie, one rootin'-tootin' pro gun-in-every-truck kinda lady. So, I gotta ask ya Jamie, how'd that work out for ya?
Assuming they have no more kids, that is.
Officers say four children had been left in the car while their mother and step-father were inside the building a short distance away, paying a bill. Police say the boy's 8-year-old brother fired the gun. The 7-year-old boy was bleeding from the head. Investigators say one of the children found a loaded semi-automatic pistol in their mother's purse. They say the child tried to unload the weapon by removing the magazine when the gun discharged. (KOS)
I mean, really, what can go wrong when you forget that you've got a loaded gun in the purse you left in the car with your kids? Honestly, this is getting so commonplace that the news doesn't even bother reporting it any more.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Alaska State Troopers say a 5-year-old boy was playing video games in his living room when he was fatally shot by an 11-year-old child.
Ho hum, right?

Because They Could

More dead kids.
CINCINNATI (AP) -- An armed man who believed he was confronting an intruder in the basement of his home Tuesday morning instead fatally shot his 14-year-old son, who was supposed to be on his way to school, police said.
DUNCANNON, Pa. (AP) -- The family of a 12-year-old girl accidentally shot by a constable serving eviction papers does not blame the law officer for her death or have "any hard feelings toward him," a member of the girl's extended family said Wednesday.[..] Donald Meyer, 57, pointed a loaded rifle at Constable Clark Steele on Monday and Steele fired a single shot in return; the bullet traveled through Meyer's arm and struck Ciara Meyer, who was standing behind him, state police said.
In both cases a parent was responsible for their child's death. In the first it was a "shoot first, regret later" situation. In the second, it was the parent's decision to point a gun into the face of a constable that lead to his daughter's death. Both scenarios were preventable. Neither warranted the use of a gun. But hey, this is America, where it's a "right" to own a weapon. I like how conservatives still use Obama as a reason to go out and stockpile weapons. At no point in his lengthy administration did the number of firearms per household decrease, they actually increased. All because "any day now, Obama will take guns out of American's hands." Amazing really that people still swallow that bullshit, because it never happened and it never will. So people buy more and more, and preventable deaths still go up. And no one seems to get the message.
First line says it all.
But in the three years since [Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre], many states have moved in the opposite direction, embracing the National Rifle Association's axiom that more "good guys with guns" are needed to deter mass shootings. (AP)
Ordinarily the notion of capitalizing on a tragedy for your own ends is considered bad, the NRA makes money off of the concept in a multitude of ways. You can have your Bruce Willis/Clint Eastwood style of bad, where guns = image of cool. Then you can have your "live in fear" mentality where guns = security (probably to protect from the guns = image bad guys) rationale. And then there's the "well it's my right so I have to have lots and lots" reasoning. And finally there's the whole "we're a gonna' overthrows teh gubbmint" (I hesitate to use the word 'logic' here just because I've run out of synonyms) excuse. Unless you're using a gun in the line of duty or hunting for food you don't NEED a gun. But if you want one, sure, be my guest BUT YOU STILL NEED TO RESPECT PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT GUNS IN THEIR LIVES. Yes that's a thing. So here we have a group of parents, a town traumatized by a stupid mom who decided to "bond" with her mentally ill son by giving him easy access to guns. In *my* world I would look for ways to keep guns out of the hands of crazies, not get MORE guns into the hands of MORE people faster. Because in my world I know that more bullets in the hands of the untrained means more accidental (or deliberate) deaths. It's kinda hard to argue with that IF you use logic. However if you use emotion (which the NRA does very successfully, see the plethora of suggestions above) then people will not only use the tragic deaths of kids to further their own agenda, but make a packet on doing so (guns and bullets ain't cheap yo.) So there you have it. Unlike the rest of the world which had tragedies and used it to regulate guns (thereby cutting down on further tragedies) WE use it to relax laws so EVERY dimestore looney can have their very own. Yay. Next up President Trump!
Do you blame the parents? Or society? Or someone else?
WHITE PINE, Tenn. (AP) -- An 11-year-old boy has been charged with murder after he killed his 8-year-old neighbor, police said, and witnesses say it was because the girl wouldn't let him see her puppy. Deputies were called to the neighborhood in White Pine, about 40 miles east of Knoxville, on Saturday night. The boy shot the girl from inside his home with his father's 12-gauge shotgun, said Jefferson County Sheriff Bud McCoig.
Was it TV? Or lack of religion? Maybe it's Obama's fault because everyone had to go out and buy all the guns when he got elected because they'd get taken away otherwise too. Or maybe it's nobody's fault. Or perhaps the 8 year old girl's. Because she shouldn't have said "no".

And Again...

Kids'n guns. It's a thing.
AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- Officials in Georgia say an elementary school student suffered minor injuries after being accidentally shot by a third-grade classmate playing with a gun.[..] Police said the boy who brought the .380-caliber handgun to school was questioned and released to his parents. No decisions on charges had been made.
Nope, no charges because y'know, junior really meant no harm and no one was kilt.
