Walls.. Walls everywhere.. whats wrong with that?
Anybody who even glances at some form of news media has been recently barraged with so many comments and opinions on why we should or shouldn't have a huge wall/fence built across our borders. If we lose the partisan politics and deal with this issue from a common sense approach, it all becomes very simplistic.
(1) Walls aren't meant to keep people out or in - anybody can traverse any type of fence or wall at anytime. There is no wall or fence that can 100% prevent anyone from traversing it in some fasion or manner... so lets get that out of the way. Instead, Walls and barriers are widely used in everyday life for various things such as keeping waiting lines flowing smoother, retain vehicles from opposing traffic, retain water in needed areas, protection from harsh elements, theft diversion, etc etc. So basically a wall should be considered... FLOW CONTROL... Agreed? The proposed wall/fencing on our borders should be considered the same thing.. FLOW CONTROL for people.
(2) Law abiding people wanting to migrate to the U.S have no reason to cross into the U.S. illegally. And no, complaining about how long it takes to get processed the proper way is not an excuse to jump fences and walls. Wait your turn like all the rest of us have to do occasionally in life. The INS backlog is currently only 3 days for initial temporary status. Full status can be obtained in as little as 12 months. Please see their website.
(3) Current U.S. immigration laws require proper identification procedures for anybody wanting to become a U.S. citizen. We need no further laws or clarifications. The laws regarding immigration and naturalization here in the U.S. can easily be understood by even the most moronic persons. In fact, the INS has a nice website that you can browse through - written on a 5th grade comprehension and reading level laid out in very very very simplistic 1.2.3.4.5 steps for you to follow and is also conveniently available in 36 different languages. If you dont have a computer, then you can utilize the telephone to call the INS and get the same information read to you by an automated attendant. Still not good enough? They have many offices conveniently located AT ANY BORDER OUTPOST FACILITY, plenty of helpful staff and most importantly they are open 7 days a week, 24 hrs a day to help you get started in becoming an American citizen.
Now lets put this whole argument into a bit of perspective.
Most people dont seem upset with the current Sexual Predator database that clearly shows convicts living in your neighborhood. The public outcry for this information was all the rage a few short years ago and still is today. Shouldnt we be equally concerned about the proper identification.. hell even just knowing the names of those who've crossed into the U.S. and melded into society? How many of them are sexual predators in the countries they came from?
How many of you have applied for jobs and had to undergo various tests.. such as a polygraph, or a simple criminal background check... how about a generic drug test of some sort? These have become pre-requisites in most any job hiring procedures today. If people are so hell-bent on pre-qualifying prospective employees, babysitters, and school helpers, then why shouldnt as a nation firmly demand even the simplest requirement of those coming here..... IDENTIFICATION!
Anyone in their right mind who believes the U.S. will close itself off from the rest of the world and NOT accept any new immigrants is dealing with a bad case of the 'stupids'. Any right minded person who feels the walls are a bad thing must really be clueless and have very little common sense. We dont care who you are, or where you are from. We just want to know your REAL name, make sure you arent a known fugitive from justice in another country, arent a known terrorist and get you an SSI for tax purposes so that companies can hire you LEGALLY and you can contribute to the fucked up tax system that all the rest of us contribute to for 5 months of each year.
