Oil Companies with a heart?!?

Im reading this fresh AP story about today's press conference with Bush on the big oil problems. Bush is asked why he is rejecting the plans to tax these windfall profits, to which he replies:

"The temptation in Washington is to tax everything, Rather than for the government to reap the benefit from oil company profits driven by the recent surge in global oil prices. The answer is for there to be strong re-investment. These oil prices are a wakeup call. We're dependent on oil. We need to get off oil. With gasoline topping $3 a gallon in some areas, energy companies should use their increased cash flows to build more natural gas pipeline, expand refineries, explore in environmentally friendly ways, and invest in renewable sources of energy."

HAHAH WTF!! You're kidding right? Do you honestly think that they are going to SPEND any of their money on efforts that would REDUCE THEIR PROFITS LATER ON!? How can he honestly believe that ANY company is going to purposely SPEND money in an effort to help the general public that would reduce their net profits? Give me a fuggin break.

Im moving to Mexico, I hear the accomodations are great and crime is down due to the reduced population.

With gasoline at over $3 a gallon in some areas, Bush said there was ''no evidence'' of price-gouging of consumers.

You have it of course. It's a brilliant display of contrived naivete. In the previous term Bush had been nominally interested in pushing the alternative fuels development, in the past 2, 3 years he basically dropped all mention (and much funding) for those efforts.

It's clear that he's going to resurrect the spectres of these initiatves as an effort to "look busy". Anyone with half a brain however (less than 10% of the voting public) would call him on his real dedication to those efforts as opposed to his Oil-man roots.
