Beware Del Monte Fruit Cups: Produced In China

I try and give my kids fruit with their lunch. Sometimes it's fresh, or sometimes it's fruit in bars, or cups. One of my kids really likes orange slices, so I got mandarin slices in juice. As I got home the package dropped out of the bag and one cup cracked open. The floor was a sticky mess, but the fruit inside the plastic cup was still good so I thought I might eat it instead. So I read the label just to make sure it didn't have any preservatives that I'm allergic to. And that's when I saw it was made in China. Wait what? Fruit from China? The nation with the worst health and safety standards in the entire world? Where their products have sickened and killed people all over the globe? Fuck no. Into the trash it went. I was pretty disappointed, last week I found that the local store brand fruit cup was made in China but now Del Monte too? It sucks, but I'm going to vote with my wallet by boycotting any consumable products from China. Please read labels when you're in the store, I'm sorry I didn't.

Was the fruit merely grown in China or processed there, too. If processed, the FDA does have some oversight of items being imported to the US and gets assurances that processing is done to certain standards. In other words, the processing end should not be a problem. However, China does not have the same restrictions on pesticide use that we have in the US. Of course China is not the only country in that boat. We need to be aware from where all of our food comes.

I noticed this and did not buy the product. I find it incomprehensible that most of the manufactored products come from China and increasingly our food products. I guess that we could never upset China in anyway as we would be left hungry and without manufactored items. Our government seems to be blissfully unaware of this inbalance.

The Del Monte peach cups are safe, they contain fruit both grown and packaged here in the US. Also Mussleman’s apple sauce. Good stuff and even a little cheaper than Mott’s.

I agree with your issues with China; however, mandarins originate in China. They produce more mandarins than places like Brazil, Spain, and Morocco, etc. The best mandarins come from there. You would be surprised how many of your food products are processed in China. People don’t want to pay for food produced in North America or elsewhere.

If the food doesn’t say Made in China look to see where it was processed. I have some fruit cups here that say grown and processed in the USA and I have some that just say distributed by del monte in san fran. I’d be willing to bed that the later is imported from China.

It was then that I happened to notice the wide variety of fruits and vegetables available that had been grown in China. This discovery gave me some serious concerns for the Canadians who purchased these products. Let me explain; For a number of years Sweden or Denmark, or at least one of the Scandinavian countries decided to experiment with human fertilizer in order to enhance crop growth and production. Well to make a long story short, the soon discovered that to be a serious mistake. Apparently the problem arose that human waste,no matter how it is refined or treated is utterly contaminated by various chemicals from many sources including prescription drugs. AS if that was not bad enough it was also evident that human waste contained a toxic amount of heavy metals. This problem immediately rendered human waste unfit for crops intended for human or animal consumption due to the fact that the heavy metals were readily absorbed by the vegetable and fruit products and consequently the products then had to be condemned. The use of human waste then as I recall, was restricted to fertilizing the vast forests of that particular country. This however was not the end of the problem, for it became evident that the soil in the fields that had been fertilized with human waste were now RENDERED TOTALLY UNUSABLE FOR CROP PRODUCTION …….FOREVER!!!! Now comes the important part, and I am sure that any of you doubting Thomases can easily utilize the net to check the facts on this matter so here goes………VIRTUALLY ALL FRUITS AND VEGETABLES GROWN IN CHINA ARE FERTILIZED WITH HUMAN WASTE AND HAVE BEEN FOR MANY MANY YEARS!!! Better start reading those labels!! Reeeeee Produce From China (YYuuuuuuuuuuuuuuukkkk) Funny how this subject should come up today because it was just yesterday I was recounting how my mother who was quite worldly had explained to me when I was a child how the Chinese grew their farm fish. She said they actually used to place the outdoor toilets on stilts and place then right above the pond containing their food fish. Thus every time they took a dump it went straight into the fish pond, and the fish would just tear into it!

I complained to Del Monte about this, their answer was to send me some discount coupons!!!!!!!! If you go to their website under “Our Growers” you will find no mention of China. If you drink apple juice from many companies you will find it comes from China. Kroger “Fred Meyer” apple juice hides the made in China notice. It is not on the label but rubber stamped on the bottle and hard to see because the apple juice is oxidized and brownish. They are so proud to be selling you a quality product.
