Veto'd opinion

Mr Bush veto'd the war spending bill that Congress sent him. No one was surprised. He said he would and he did.

He also veto'd the stem cell research bill. No one was surprised. He said he would and he did.

I find it interesting that both issues are widely supported by the people. Regardless of your opinion on either issue, I can't say that I'm comforted by that fact.

Putting that aside, I'm going to take the time to give out a little 'fuck you'. Not to Bush though. This one's going out to the democrats for dancing to Bush's tune. You see, they've already indicated that they are working on a bill without the timetables, just as Bush requested. It may have a few goals, but nothing attached to troop withdrawal. Bush said the veto'd bill was nothing but a political stunt, and they're proving him right. He demanded they give him what he wanted and they're going to do it.

I don't know. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm a stubborn bastard. Maybe I'm better poker player. But I'd be damned if I'd let him call me here. The Dems have got the better hand. Popular opinion is on their side. The president ASKED for emergency funding. He came to Congress with his hand out. Congress controls the pocketbook. It's a check on power. It's their fucking RIGHT to exercise it.

If they think the President is wrong... if they think the approach is wrong... if they think it's in the best interests of the country... stand the fuck up and say so. You don't have to pass his fucking funding bill. In fact, if you believe any of that is true, you're fucking required by your oath of office NOT to pass his funding his way.

I don't know if Bush's position is right or wrong. For the purposes of this, it doesn't matter. The problem is the subjugation of the legislative branch to the executive. When the pubs were in control, I accepted it, because it was agreement with the leader of their party. Not that the dems have it, I find it unacceptable and weak willed that they would consider behaving the same way. If you disagree, fucking DO it. It's part of your oath. To represent your constituents and viewpoints to the best of your ability. Guess what? This isn't it. This is bending over and hoping you can ride the dissatisfaction until 2008. Fucking bullshit.

Stand up for yourself. No fucking wonder the pubs have raped you for so long.

I see it in a different light - rarely if ever has congress actually made a point of saying "your approach is wrong" to a wartime president. Korea, Vietnam, neither - regardless of public opinion. The Democrats wanted to go on record by stating their position - "we don't approve of your fucking policy, we have been elected to end it." Yes Bush said he would veto it, and yet the Democrats made him do it, not necessarily the other way around.

Further it buys them time, by pushing this bill in front of the president, they have the time to come up with a better proposal while everyone is busy watching the show. When a move is so very blatant you have to wonder what it's trying to distract from.

What remains to be seen is how they manage to get their message across. It's a risky game, with the accusations of anti-patriotism flying thick and fast on both sides.

The only thing about this I really find amusing is the retarded argument "are you going to tell the enemy when you're going to withdraw" nonsense. Unless we plan on staying there forever, and killing thousands more Americans in the process we will have to withdraw sometime. And time isn't in our favor.

It buys them time? To do what? Hurry up and give him what he wants?

Nah. Don't care. They stood up and stated their position. If they give in after that, they're not only weak willed, they're hypocrites.

Risky? Sure. But true and honest. And if they had HALF the spin capabilities of the Bushites... they'd turn it right back at him. He vet'd it. It's HIS fault they don't have money. I remember pubs making that very argument about 10 years ago when the government shut down.

Rou, very nicely worded. Very nice observation on the current situation at hand regarding congress and the President. Its an interesting catch-22 for the dems right now.

They also realize that they do not have enough votes to overstep the President and yank the troops out of Iraq. They know that this whole situation is very important for them in 2008 so they are treading lightly in their decisions and making choices based solely upon how it will help or hinder them in the upcoming election.

This is just good ole politics.

As I said before.. like him or hate him, Bush has stood up and performed what he said he was going to do on many subjects not just this war in Iraq issue. He hasn't wavered based upon political opinions. In fact they've screwed up some things from a political fallout standpoint that they probably shouldn't have done... which will most likely hurt them in 2008. But in the end, I still prefer someone who does what they say they're going to do rather than telling us one thing and doing something else entirely different all for political power/party gain.
