They call it LIFE??????

Heh. I thought the ad was a spoof. No one could be that stupid.

Let me back up. There is a little non profit organization called CEI or Competitive Enterprise Institute. Basically, they’re a conservative mouthpiece. Limited government, free market type deal. Pretty boiler plate stuff that is unworthy of scorn or rantage.

But you see, sometimes groups do stupid stupid things. This group decided it was their time.

They made an environmental awareness ad. Normally such things are no big deal. Talk about what corporations are doing to keep the environment clean. Plant a tree. Search for new alternative fuels. Right? That’s what I expected.

No.

That would be… worthwhile. I failed to grasp that this little organization was going to be a corporate shill.

No, the ad they put out had a stream of images of national parks and kids playing, and such things. The voice over went along these lines:

There is something around you, that you can’t see. It’s essential to life. Plants breath it in. We breath it out. The fuel it gives us help us get away from back braking manual labor. It’s called Carbon Dioxide. CO2. Allowing us to create and move the things we need. Now, some politicians are trying to label it a pollutant. Imagine if they succeed. What would our lives be like then? They call it pollution. We call it life

What the mother fucking hell. Then the other one:

You’ve seen those headlines about global warming. Glaciers are melting. We’re doomed. That’s what some studies say. Others say the exact opposite. You never hear about those studies. The glaciers are growing, not melting. These environmental alarmists blame carbon dioxide from the fuels we use. They want us to cut back. But we depend on those fuels. We use them to light up our lives and protect our families. As for carbon dioxide: it’s not smog or smoke. It’s what we breathe out and plants breathe in. Carbon Dioxide. They call it pollution. We call it life.

I’m almost at a loss for words. First off, they call it a pollutant because it IS. If they doubt that in some manner, I welcome them to close there garage, turn on their car and hang out for a few hours. Or hang out on top of a smokestack.

If they want to argue that CO2 doesn’t lead to global warming, go for it. I disagree with those studies that they claim prove otherwise, but I welcome their input. But it’s pollution pure and simple either way. Calling it LIFE, is bullshit. It’s certainly part of the natural cycle of life. Plant need it to live. But you know what? They don’t need the god-awful amounts that the industrial nations of the world put out. And seeing as we’re chopping down forests, there are fewer trees there that can convert it into oxygen. Hence, more and more CO2 in the air. And that’s BAD. Even throwing out global warming, take a tour of downtown L.A., and ask yourself how those CO2 emissions are effecting your breathing. Can you feel it there in the back of your throat? I know you used to corporate cock there, but this time, something else tickling your tonsils.

Not a pollutant? Not a pollutant? Are you fucking insane? I mean seriously, do you have good elbow pads? Because you certainly bent over for the oil industry here. I suppose they at least give you lots of KY, right?

Secondly, the ad is filled with bullshit imagery that has nothing to do with CO2 production. Lots of panoramic views of huge forests. Some brief glimpses of people cycling in a park. Some close ups of people and dogs breathing. Not many huge industrial complexes. Not so much on bumper to bumper traffic jams.

There are a million ways to put out a pro industry ad about global warming. Show some proof that global warming isn’t as bad as they said. Put up some information showing what is being done to curtail pollution.

Telling the customer that pollution is good for them? That’s fucking wrong. It’s unconscionable.

You call it life? I swear. Fuck you. Just… fuck you.

Imo this is also a reflection on the stations that carry the commercial. In the past political ads (and this is clearly a political ad) have been censored or rejected by the stations paid to carry them. They ~do preview the material. The fact that a network/channel would broadcast something that's clearly bullshit means they're endorsing it.

It's a new era. Money makes right, truth and honesty don't matter.

Another lie of theirs is claiming that all the fuss is strictly over CO2. The bigger problem is CO (Carbon Monoxide) which is what will kill You if You decide to sit in Your running car in the closed garage. People don't exhale CO, plants don't use it. It's strictly a poison and a pollutant. Of course, a company interesting in making untrue commercials would rather ignore that...

You are a fucking insane if you call CO2 pollutant - if you call what you exhale a pollutant and what plants VITALLY need, I suggest your stupid brain is a pollutant.

And you are fucking stupid if you claim that plants don't "really" need it - all that carbon was once circulating in the biosphere, fossil fuels are just that, the hydrocarbons in oil didn't somehow grow naturally in the planet without life creating them.

The truth has this problem that it finally wins, and it finally won now, over collectivist, commie and econazi dogma. So now people frustrated with their miserable lives feel the need to lie, because how they could bitch otherwise? They would have to admit they are miserable, worthless fucktards, and if they bitch preemptively at whatever, take your pick, they show they "care" (yeah right). It's a silly social game, nothing more really.

Oh, it's insane. Gotcha. That naturally makes your point.

Did you know cow farts consist of methane? Natural. But still a pollutant. You see, just because my breath contains CO2, it doesn’t mean that if that chemical is released in huge massive amount by industry, isn't a pollutant.

I can see how you want to make that argument, but it's flawed on a big level. Pollutants are, by definition, something that pollutes, especially a waste material that contaminates air, soil, or water. CO2 does that. It damages the environment. It's harmful to humans and animals in large volumes.

CO2 fits the bill. Sorry about your luck. Thank you, come again.

CO2 maybe part of the natural cycle, but industry is throwing the cycle completely out of whack. I may not completely buy the level of doom and gloom that some environmental groups dish, but CO2 levels are rising. If CEI likes CO2 so much, maybe they should put some plastic bags over their heads, and see how long they can breathe it. Of course the people that made this ad, just might be sniffing something.

CO2 doesn't fit the bill, idiot, because it's what plants VITALLY NEED TO LIVE. Heavy metals like lead or mercury compounds in the air they don't.

You're playing with semantics of definitions: formally CO2 that people or cars exhale is "pollution", therefore bad - and don't look that unlike truly toxic contaminants, CO2 in the air is the only reason for plant photosynthesis and subsequently that there is any life on this planet (well apart from bacteria that don't need oxygen maybe, but that's not much of life, is it).

You just want to bitch mindlessly about something that is not true.

When Ronald Reagan made a bit of chutzpah about trees producing carbohydrates that technically were pollution, it was not meant seriously, but it was only designed to drive econazies nuts.

Now you, like an idiot, take such stuff seriously. You flushed your brain that sucks down the toilet.

By your line of thinking EVERYTHING fits the definition of a polltutant. That's fucking stupid.

CO2 is a required part of the life cycle. No argument there. And if all we were talking about was you and me exhaling it and the trees using it, then we'd be fine, wouldn't we?

But we're not. We're talking about hundreds of metric tons of it spewing into the atmosphere from sources like car exhaust, and industrial plants. Things well outside the balanced ecosystem you're describing. And as it goes up, there just aren't enough plants to use it. So instead of going around in with that happy circle of life bullshit your smoking, it stays up there.

And that's bad for us. It's bad for the plants. It's bad for the animals. It's bad for us. And you know what... that's the classic definition of a pollutant.

But you go right ahead and call it life if you want to. You're wrong, but hey, apologists can't be choosy, right?

330-350 ppm to smth over 400 ppm of CO2. ppm being obviously parts per million. Big fucking deal and big fucking increase. It's a joke. If global warming happens, it's not because of CO2. I don't know, maybe it's cows farting.

That carbon was once in the biosphere, dimwit. How can it kill us all and/or ruin the planet when it was "put in use" by life processes back then when dinosaurs walked the earth? Unless of course some Tyrannosaurus Rex was US President and mined the Earth to pollute it with carbon.

At most, we are putting it BACK here. And as research that isn't overblown for propaganda reasons by 'deep ecology' nutsos that want planet so pristine that nobody will be there to have orgasms over its "natural" beauty (apart from the fact that life itself is sometimes modifying it significantly anyway) shows, it's a small tiny little increase anyway.

That carbon WAS life, dimwit. Fossil fuels are precisely that. Cars burning them are doing NO DIFFERENT THING THAN A LOVABLE PARASITE-INFESTED RAINFOREST MONKEY EXHALING CO2.

Good argument there. A 20% raise in volume. That's all? OK, that's fine then. No problem there.

Not like we live in a delicately balanced ecosystem where massive changes like that have horrific effects on global climate.

Whew. I was worried for a minute.

Besides, your right. We're just putting existing carbon atoms back into the atmosphere. Obviously that won't hurt anything because they used to be there a few million years ago. Wow. Circle of life man. That's far out dude. It's airtight man. No logical flaws in that argument.

In case you didn't notice, I'm mocking you now. Because you're stupid. I feel I need to explain this to you slowly.

BB, logic flaws aside, Carbon Monoxide (CO) is also part of the problem with these sorts of emissions, not just Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Living creatures (plants or animals) are only hurt by CO as it actually *leeches* Oxygen out of the air or bloodstream (in not so many words). Those little CEI commercials conveniently leave that out.

Your should probably do some research into Bio-Chemisty on Your own rather than taking the word of either CEI or anyone here as fact. That is, unless Your only purpose in posting here is trolling for flames.
