But it's crap...

I've never really understood some people's choice in beer. I do not consider myself a beer snob. Honest. I drink what I drink because it tastes good. Has a good beer flavor.

But what makes a man decide Natty Ice is the best beer? And defend that choice to the bitter end? Coors light? MGD? Bud E? Pabst Blue Ribbon? None of these are good beers. They do not taste good. They don't taste like beer. Maybe you have to hate the taste of beer to enjoy these "beers". And if you don't like the taste of beer, drink something else.

The only answer I can come up with is money. Cheap beer generally tastes like crap. So, if you need cheap beer, you generally buy crap. Maybe you get used to it after a while. Your taste buds curl up and die. In horror at the flavor of Pabst, they go on permanent vacation, never to return. So you never actually find out how bad it tastes.

The thing I never understood is why some people swear that those crappy beers are good. It boggles my mind. I makes me wonder if they've ever had good beer. They're dedicated. Fanatical. All to beers that taste like urinated water

Its opinion and what you are brought up on, pure and simple. I've known people that will only drink one brand of beer and thats it. And inevitably its something bad like Old Style or Bud, but whatever. Abba already brought up this complaint earlier in the fall I think.

I'll take the opposite approach just to make it interesting since I'm sure no one here is going to defend any domestics. While I don't mind some domestics, I wouldn't dare say they set any standards in quality :) Popular good beers that I think are shit:

Sam Adams: I've tried this on numerous occasions and still can't figure out why people think its good. Its just an extremly bitter beer. I'd rather drink MGD.

Guinness: I'm a big fan of stouts and porters, in fact they are my favorite overall type of beer. But guiness has always seemed 'light' bodied with an aftertaste of meat. Unlike Sam Adams, I can drink it, but would rather drink a true dark beer.

Corona: Mexican piss in a clear bottle that tastes like sour water to me. I can see why people put a lemon or a lime in it, it does help some. But I really don't want to have a lemon masking the fact I'm drinking pee.

I'll agree with Sam Adams tasting like crap. After I'd tried some I was seriously wondering if mine was from a bad batch but from what I've heard it sounds like it really is just a bad beer.

Guinness I actually like and have no problems with how it tastes. Another good dark beer I've been introduced to recently is New Castle brown ale. Hard to say if I like it more than Guinness yet but it's a contender.

As for cheaper beers that don't quite have the liquid oatmeal characteristic, my "usual" is Yuengling lager. Tastes better to me than Bud or Miller plus it's from where I grew up as a kid which kind of warms my heart. ;)

Yuengling isn't the best beer out there, but it's perfectly drinkable, and that's impressive considering how cheap it is. It's not available in New England, though I like to pick some up when I'm in Maryland.
