Sex? No. Curses? No. Violence? Oh yeah!

There are few things dumber in society then watching a movie on TV and having a character say something idiotic like “Prepare to die mother-lover” then callously murdering someone.

This isn’t limited to just cursing. I mean, we have movies where you can watch a guy get gunned down in a hail of bullets, but they won’t show a scene where two people fuck, even if it’s all under covers.

Why do censors draw the line in such a usual manner? I mean, we can’t handle things like shit and fuck, but blowing someone up is alright? We can’t deal with the thought of two people having sex, but skewering them on a sword is A-OK?

I don’t understand the methodology of censors. I mean, sex and curses have to be edited, but explosions, gun fights and fist fights are fine? I mean, there is an obvious hypocrisy there, right?

While we’re on the topic… who the fuck decides how to censor curse words? I mean, sometimes they replace them with the DUMBEST fucking phrases. Mother lover is only an example, but there are far worse ones out there. Most of the time, the substitution totally removes me from the story because it’s so obviously doesn’t fit the character or situation.

I've always been astonished myself by the approval of violence vs the admonishment of "obscenity". I've known parents who have let little kids watch gruesome disembowlments, horror-reality shows about emergency or police response but at the same time given you the evil eye for saying "damn" or "crud".

In one case a parent brought over his second grader with a pretty violent first-person shooter game to share, and then ran his kid out of the house in a hurry when the anime my kids were watching showed a half naked girl on a beach.

It seems that in America that violence is a family-friendly theme, while accidental soap-commercial nudity, or real-life commentary (explectives) are not. I deeply suspect that anything that might accidentally cause additional work for a parent is considered wrong. I mean how hard is it to explain that women have tits and it's not a big deal? How hard is it to tell a kid they can't repeat the curses they just heard until their old enough?
