We all know the economy is in the shit can right?

Well, some people would like to forget it when it is their particular special project.

I work for government. Some of the stuff the public expects of us we can not do in house. Hiring someone from the outside for these occasional tasks takes money - money that right not we do not have.

Example: I need to prepare written information for a community. A few members of a citizen's group were whining that I didn't have my letter translated into two other languages, Spanish and Polish. When I stated that we did not have the resources and I welcome suggestions, I was told that not providing translations was unacceptable and that it wasn't their job help me with it. This statement was made by the staff member of an elected official for the community! If I really wanted to argue with the woman, I may have asked how her office translated information for their community!

This just boggles the mind. We can't even order pens in my office, I'm sure we can find a few grand laying about to translate some stuff (yup, professional translation is expensive). Or perhaps she expects me to reach in my pocket and pay for that too.

Tell her to provide the request to your office in the respective languages first...
