More Katrina atrocities

Evidently in the evacuation of the hurricane stricken areas, they are trying to forcibly remove people without their pets. OK, maybe "people first", but show a little fucking compassion! What are these animals supposed to do starve and thirst to death without their caretakers. That is just plain fucking cruel to the animals. I forget who said it, but it is something to the effect that we will be judged by what we do to the least of us and what can be considered "less" than animals. Furthermore, these people stand to lose every material possession they have. The only thing they have left to give them comfort is their animal companions. I know they would have to drag me kicking a screaming without my three cats - and I would take a couple of the SOBs out in the process. Yes I feel that strongly.

I'd agree. The picture that shook people - about a boy being parted from his dog - has generated an effort to reunite them. However it's hard to say what percentage of rescuers ~didn't take the pets. I read in an article last night about rescue attempts for the last remaining survivors. This included a story about a guy who had holed up in his attic and put a pipe up through the roof to breath. When the rescuers came for him he was dead, and they tried to convince his dog to leave, but it wouldn't. At least in that case they did try....
