Mislabeled mp3s

Every time I go onto filesharing services to find illegal music, I'm amazed at how badly people label their songs. They'll guess at the artist, or make up song titles based on the part of the lyrics they can understand, or say something's a cover when it's really just a song with the same title.

This is annoying for two reasons. First, it makes me download things I don't want. When I see "Violent Femmes - I Wanna Be Sedated", I think it's a cover, so I download it. And it's just the regular song, labeled by someone who can't tell the difference between the Femmes and the Ramones. And that's the second annoying thing: These people don't even know what they're listening to. They think that the Ventures, the Beach Boys, and the Surfaris are all the same band. They mix up Bjork and Tori Amos. As a music nerd, I just find that offensive.

Bitching about mislabeled songs you are downloading illegally for free? Wow, to have it so bad, it must be tough. I suppose you'd complain if you shoplifted some merchandise and could only return it for store credit instead of cash :P

(now i don't really give a shit if you download stuff for free, i do it also. it just seems a bit silly to complain about something that takes little time, costs nothing, and can easily be corrected)

I suppose there's no community pride (amongst thieves)?

None the less, unless you're deliberately trying to waste time and bandwidth for malicious reasons you probably should label something correctly. Most especially if you expect other people to do it for you....

It's not pride, it's ignorance. They don't know they're wrong. They don't double check their music before sharing it.
