Why the Democrats Will Lose

It's funny. Bush's approval ratings are at an all-time low, and the Republicans are having all kinds of ethical troubles. But people still don't like the Democrats. And I know why.

They've been given an obvious opening: A stupid Republican representative calls a former Marine a coward. Here's the response that the Democrats have come up with, to be put on billboards in her Congressional district:

"Shame on You, Jean Schmidt: Stop Attacking Veterans. Keep Your Eye on the Ball -- We Need a Real Plan for Iraq."

That is, without a doubt, the worst slogan I've ever heard. And it's the best thing the Democrats can come up with. No matter how badly the Republicans do, nobody's going to listen to the Democrats if they're that incapable of communicating. Also, they aren't even trying to come up with their own plan for Iraq, just whining that the Republicans don't have one. It's just pathetic.

I think this is really the problem. I've yet to see anything from the Democrats that seems like a good idea, things to do, hell, any frickin leader to even respect. The only thing they seem to offer is that they aren't Republicans. I can't even remember the guy's name that ran against Bush or any particular platform he had. Just that he wasn't Bush seemed to be the only thing going for him.

Fuck I can't stand our government or leaders anymore in either party...

In my mind the complacency built in from years of successes have had a Darwinian effect on both parties. The Republicans have developed a razor sharp tongue, and the democrats have gotten mushy and slow to react. To me it's packaging. The democrats are still using simple and un-inspiring template failing to recognize that our society has changed. The average man does NOT read a news paper - he gets his news in 2 second bites in color. People don't think - they don't WANT to think, they want to agree/disagree in a heartbeat and move on.

Understand this - people don't want to think, they want to react - immediately. They are more willing to embrace a position that's wrong if it's simple, and catchy "Sure it may be wrong, but fuck it - I already decided", than sit down and ponder and listen to qualified opinion.

Dean has this notion, but he has no following to institutionalize it, nor the experience to really wield it well.
