Another boring video game complaint

Saturday, I'm playing a computer RPG. (Specifically, "Sacred".) I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do next, so I go and check Gamefaqs. Turns out that I'm supposed to ask the NPC sorceress for advice, and she'll give me the next quest. Okay, fine, except for one problem. The sorceress joined my party a while ago to help out, and she was killed in a fight. Which means that it's impossible to get the next quest, and thus impossible to finish the game that I've devoted way too much time to over the last few weeks.

The thing is, the game doesn't warn you when the character dies. Most games would say "The sorceress is dead; you lose." Or, better yet, they wouldn't let the character die at all if she's important to the plot. But because the game let her die without complaining, I didn't think she mattered, I didn't reload as soon as she died. So now I have to start all over again at the beginning because of this stupid design flaw. Better yet, I won't start again; I'll just play something better.

You aren't missing much, the ending is very anti-climatic. In fact, I killed the main boss before I even knew that it was the last battle. I like playing the vampire tho, very entertaining...but the story line was meh.

ugh. That's one of the worst things that can happen in a game.

I can understand at least when something like that occurs due to an actual game bug. But when it occurs simple because they never considered the possiblity that it COULD happen, nor did they build in any catches to prevent it... that's bad design.

Sacred was a Euro ripoff of Diablo. They did a decent story, and tried to implement a different engine but their attention to detail just sucked.

It's playable, and there's some interesting ideas but it was very unfinished. Besides game bugs there are also UI bugs that were annoying as hell.
